smoker

A metal can with a bellows attached, used for blowing smoke into a hive to distract the bees before opening. Look for one with a guard around the outside.

bee brush

A soft, wide brush for brushing bees off the hive and frames. A soft, wide, clean paintbrush can also be used.

frame grips

Metal grips that aid in lifting frames from the hive. Not strictly necessary, but helpful, especially if you’re wearing gloves.

spray bottles

One of water (for honey cleanup), one of alcohol, to cut through propolis
